At the heart of the task of the catechesis is the person of Jesus. (GDC #98) Our belief in Jesus leads us to confess our faith in the Trinity – Father, Son and Spirit. (GDC #99) The Missionary mandate of Jesus calls us to proclaim, witness, teach, celebrate sacraments and love our neighbor. Through these activities, we share the Gospel with the world. (GDC#46)
Parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith. It is through the witness of Christian life given by parents in the family that children are formed to respond to the call of their Baptism. The care that is taken to model and explain the Christian and religious meaning of events together with parental support of formal catechesis (teaching) provided by the parish’s catechetical program form children in faith. “Family catechesis precedes…accompanies and enriches all forms of catechesis.” (GDC#226)
As per Diocesan requirements, children and youth who wish to receive Sacraments must be enrolled in Family Faith Formation for one full year before the year of the Sacrament. They will also need to be enrolled in Family Faith Formation the year the Sacrament is received.
We will be using the Allelu! (Pre-K and K) and Alive in Christ (1st-5th grade) programs for Pre-K-5th grade. Each child will have a workbook, and the expectation is that the parent/guardian will commit to 1 hour/week of working through the workbook with your child(ren). There will be quizzes to monitor progress and address any concerns.

The 2017-18 Year will provide for 2 Family Faith Formation options to meet Diocesan requirements:

-Combined Family Catechesis- These Sessions will meet the Saturday Evening of the First Weekend of the Month, after the Vigil Mass. Each family is asked to bring food, potluck style, and then after Mass we will eat together and have Family Catechesis, together with all members. This option is limited to 30 families. Please register early to ensure your spot.

-Breakout Catechesis- This will follow the same model as last Year’s First Sundays, with Catechesis for the whole Family after the 9am Mass on First Sundays. The pre-K through 5th graders will go to age-specific classrooms, and the 6-12 youth will go together, and the parents and adults will stay in the Parish Hall with teaching and discussion.

One of the above options is required for Sacramental Preparation and strongly recommended for all.
