This spring our Campus Ministry Headlights trips will be going to Rochester, NY, and to Kansas City, MO. These trips are opportunities to immerse yourself in an experience that will help you to better understand the realities and needs of people with economic, education, cultural and social challenges. Though there are three different trips, all trips will focus on an understanding of Catholic Social Teaching, a chance to meet people whose lives are dedicated to Social Justice, an opportunity to encounter people who live in the reality of poverty and homelessness, and also a chance to interact with children in educational settings. Reflection and prayer are also vital components of the trip. These trips are open to students of all faiths. To learn more about the Headlights program visit our blog:

Cost of the trip is $450 and the deadline for applying is December 1st. Along with your application please make a $100 deposit. If for some reason there are more applicants than can be taken and you are not selected, your deposit will be refunded. Students will leave from Helena on Saturday, March 2nd and return on Saturday, March 9th. In addition to being selected to go a commitment to participating in fundraising activities and weekly meetings is essential. The $450 paid for the trip covers only a portion of each participant's cost.

Rochester, NY - This trip focuses on learning from the Sisters of St. Joseph in Rochester about the outreach to the poor of the city. Students on this trip will be placed in either a soup kitchen, foster home, school or community center to learn about the work that is done. Students will stay with the sisters in their home and participate in prayer and reflection each morning and evening.

Kansas City, MO - This trip will focus on understanding education through the Cristo Rey model. Students will spend the week at Cristo Rey Kansas City. A school ran by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, KS. This educational model offers inner city kids a chance to receive a Catholic education at the same time as learning job skills. Cristo Rey students spend four days a week in class and one day working for a business that sponsors their tuition. Carroll students will stay with the sisters in their home and participate in prayer and reflection each night.
